These chewy maple pecan butter cookies feature a warm, nutty flavor with a toasty crunch from pecans and a delightful contrast from flaky sea salt. Perfect for snacking or gifting, they offer a quick and easy homemade treat with a comforting maple twist.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (227g) unsalted butter, softened (European-style recommended)
  • ½ cup (120ml) pure maple syrup
  • ½ cup (100g) light brown sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (250g) all-purpose flour (can swap half for whole wheat pastry flour)
  • ½ teaspoon baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup (120g) chopped pecans, toasted
  • Flaky sea salt for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone mats.
  2. Toast pecans on a separate baking sheet for 5-7 minutes until fragrant, stirring halfway through. Let cool, then chop roughly.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together softened butter, light brown sugar, and maple syrup using a mixer until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
  4. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
  5. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  6. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing on low speed or folding with a spatula just until combined. Avoid overmixing.
  7. Fold in the toasted pecans gently.
  8. Drop dough balls about 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheets using a cookie scoop or tablespoon. Flatten slightly with fingers if desired.
  9. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges are golden but centers remain soft.
  10. Immediately sprinkle flaky sea salt on each cookie after removing from oven.
  11. Cool on baking sheets for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Chill dough for 15-20 minutes before baking if cookies spread too much. Rotate baking sheets halfway through baking for even browning. Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature to maintain chewiness. Toast pecans until fragrant but not burnt for best flavor. Avoid overmixing dough to prevent toughness. Sprinkle flaky sea salt immediately after baking for perfect sweet-salty balance.
