easy 5-ingredient guacamole - featured image

A simple, quick guacamole recipe using just five ingredients that stays green longer, perfect for parties and casual snacks.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 ripe medium-sized avocados (about 1.3 lbs or 600g total)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh lime juice (about 30 ml)
  • ¼ cup finely chopped red onion (about 40g)
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro leaves
  • ½ teaspoon fine sea salt (or to taste)

Instructions

  1. Prepare your ingredients: halve the avocados, remove the pits, and scoop the flesh into a mixing bowl. Finely chop the red onion and cilantro, and juice the limes.
  2. Mash the avocados using a fork or potato masher until desired consistency is reached, leaving some lumps for texture if preferred.
  3. Add lime juice and salt to the mashed avocado and stir gently to combine.
  4. Fold in the finely chopped onion and cilantro.
  5. Taste and adjust seasoning with more salt or lime juice if needed.
  6. Press plastic wrap directly onto the surface of the guacamole to minimize air exposure and refrigerate until ready to serve (up to 6 hours).

Notes

Use ripe but not overripe avocados for best texture. Fine dice the red onion to avoid overpowering the guacamole. Fresh lime juice and onion moisture help keep the guacamole green longer. Cover guacamole tightly with plastic wrap pressed onto the surface to minimize browning. Can be made a few hours ahead and stored in the refrigerator.
