This easy fall charcuterie board with figs and honey is the recipe that finally let me let go of that little wine bar. It’s not about recreating someone else’s magic anymore—it’s about making my own.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 8–10 fresh figs, ripe but firm (Black Mission or Brown Turkey)
  • 4–6 ounces prosciutto, thinly sliced
  • 4 ounces Manchego cheese, sliced
  • 4 ounces aged gouda, cubed
  • 4 ounces Brie cheese, wheel or wedge
  • 1/4 cup local raw honey
  • 1/2 cup roasted and salted almonds
  • 1/2 cup toasted walnuts
  • 1 box of your favorite crackers (water crackers or rosemary crackers)
  • 1 small baguette, cut into thin rounds
  • 1 apple, thinly sliced (Granny Smith)
  • 1 cup red seedless grapes
  • 1/2 cup dried figs
  • Fresh rosemary sprigs for garnish (optional)
  • For the Optional Roasted Figs:
  • 4–5 fresh figs, halved
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 sprigs fresh thyme

Instructions

  1. Prepare the figs: Rinse fresh figs gently under cool water and pat dry with paper towels. Remove the stems. For the board, leave half of them whole and halve the rest lengthwise. If roasting figs, halve 4-5 figs and set aside.
  2. Warm the honey: Pour 1/4 cup honey into a small saucepan and heat over low heat for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally. Alternatively, microwave in 10-second bursts until warm.
  3. Toast the nuts: Spread walnuts on a baking sheet and toast at 350°F for 5 minutes until fragrant. Let cool completely.
  4. Optional: Roast the figs: Preheat oven to 400°F. Place halved figs cut-side up on a lined baking sheet. Drizzle with olive oil and balsamic vinegar, then top with fresh thyme sprigs. Roast for 12-15 minutes until soft and slightly caramelized. Remove from oven and let cool for 5 minutes. Drizzle with honey before serving.
  5. Slice the cheeses: Cut manchego into thin triangles. Cube aged gouda into bite-sized pieces. Leave brie whole or cut into wedges. Let cheeses sit at room temperature for 15 minutes before serving.
  6. Arrange the board: Start with the largest items first. Place the cheeses in different spots around the board. Add small bowls for honey and any spreads. Fan out prosciutto in loose folds near the cheeses. Arrange crackers and baguette slices in small clusters. Fill in gaps with figs, grapes, apple slices, and nuts. Scatter dried figs and fresh rosemary sprigs for color. Drizzle warm honey over figs and cheese just before serving.

Notes

Room temperature cheese is non-negotiable. Take everything out of the fridge at least 20 minutes before serving. Don’t overcrowd the board—leave small gaps between items. Warm honey is worth the extra step; cold honey is thick and clumpy. Cut fruit just before serving to prevent browning. Assemble the board no more than 30 minutes before serving. For best flavor, let the board sit at room temperature for about an hour before serving, but do not leave out for more than 2 hours for food safety.
