  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter (for greasing)
  • Powdered sugar (for serving, optional)
  • Maple syrup (for serving, optional)

Instructions

  1. Cut the cinnamon rolls into roughly 1-inch pieces.
  2. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with 2 tablespoons of melted butter.
  3. Spread the cinnamon roll pieces evenly in the baking dish.
  4. In a medium bowl, whisk together eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, brown sugar, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, and salt until smooth.
  5. Pour the custard mixture evenly over the cinnamon roll pieces, pressing gently to help them soak up the liquid.
  6. Cover the dish tightly with aluminum foil or plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight or for at least 6 hours.
  7. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Remove the cover and bake uncovered for 45-50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the custard is set.
  9. Let the casserole rest for 5-10 minutes before serving.
  10. Dust with powdered sugar and drizzle with maple syrup if desired.

Notes

Use room temperature eggs and milk for better custard consistency. Do not skip the overnight soak for best texture. Tent with foil if the top browns too quickly. Let rest before serving for easier slicing. Optional toppings include chopped pecans or walnuts before baking, and powdered sugar and maple syrup for serving.
