A creamy, smoky, and slightly addictive buffalo chicken dip with a spiderweb design on top, perfect for game day and parties. This recreation of a beloved sports bar dip is quick to make and always a crowd-pleaser.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cans (12.5 oz each) canned chicken breast, drained
  • 16 oz cream cheese, softened to room temperature
  • 1 cup ranch dressing
  • 1/2 cup buffalo hot sauce (such as Frank’s RedHot)
  • 2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese, divided
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 2 tablespoons ranch dressing (for spiderweb)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (if needed)
  • Tortilla chips (scoop-style recommended)
  • Celery sticks and carrot sticks (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Ensure cream cheese is at room temperature.
  2. Drain the canned chicken and shred it into small pieces using two forks in a large mixing bowl.
  3. Add softened cream cheese, 1 cup ranch dressing, and 1/2 cup buffalo hot sauce to the shredded chicken. Beat with a hand mixer on medium speed until smooth and well-combined. Taste and adjust heat if desired.
  4. Fold in 1 1/2 cups of shredded cheddar (reserve 1/2 cup) and all of the shredded mozzarella until evenly distributed.
  5. Spoon the mixture into a greased 9-inch pie dish or baking dish. Spread into an even layer and smooth the top.
  6. Sprinkle the reserved 1/2 cup of sharp cheddar evenly over the top.
  7. In a small bowl, mix 1/2 cup sour cream and 2 tablespoons ranch dressing until smooth. If too thick, add 1 tablespoon milk. Transfer to a piping bag or zip-top bag with a tiny corner snipped off. Pipe a spiral pattern on top of the dip, starting from the center and working outward. Use a toothpick or skewer to drag lines from the center outward to create a spiderweb effect.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until hot, bubbly, and golden brown around the edges.
  9. Let the dip rest for 5 minutes before serving.
  10. Garnish with chopped green onions or fresh chives if desired. Serve with tortilla chips, celery sticks, and carrot sticks.

Notes

For best results, shred your own cheese from a block to avoid anti-caking agents. Adjust the heat level by using less hot sauce for a milder dip. The dip can be assembled up to 24 hours in advance; add 5-10 minutes to baking time if starting from cold. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 4 days and reheated in the oven at 350°F for 10-15 minutes.
