These explosive firecracker jello shots combine cherry-flavored gelatin, vodka, and fruit punch with a fizzy Pop Rocks rim for a playful and impressive party treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 package (3 oz / 85 g) cherry-flavored gelatin (recommend Jell-O)
  • 1 cup (240 ml) boiling water
  • 1 cup (240 ml) vodka (smooth brand like Tito’s recommended)
  • ½ cup (120 ml) fruit punch
  • Pop Rocks candy packets (about 3-4 packs; cherry or watermelon flavor preferred)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (for wetting the rim)
  • 2 tablespoons water or lemon juice (to help sugar and Pop Rocks stick)

Instructions

  1. In a heat-safe bowl, dissolve the cherry gelatin powder in 1 cup (240 ml) of boiling water. Whisk until completely dissolved, about 1-2 minutes.
  2. Add 1 cup (240 ml) vodka and ½ cup (120 ml) fruit punch to the gelatin mixture. Stir gently to combine without creating bubbles.
  3. In a shallow dish, mix 2 tablespoons sugar with 3 packs of Pop Rocks candy. Add 2 tablespoons water or lemon juice to a small bowl for wetting the rims.
  4. Dip the rim of each shot cup into the water or lemon juice, then immediately into the sugar-Pop Rocks mixture. Press gently to coat evenly.
  5. Carefully pour the gelatin-alcohol mixture into each prepared shot cup, filling about three-quarters full.
  6. Place the filled shot cups on a tray and refrigerate for at least 3-4 hours or until fully set.
  7. Serve chilled. Optionally, sprinkle a tiny pinch of fresh Pop Rocks on top right before serving for an added burst of fizz.

Notes

Rim the cups immediately before pouring gelatin to keep Pop Rocks fizzy. Avoid stacking shots in the fridge to preserve rims. Let gelatin mixture cool slightly before pouring to avoid melting Pop Rocks. Chill for at least 3-4 hours for best texture. Use strong-flavored gelatin like cherry or berry for best taste. For lower alcohol, replace half vodka with water or soda. Non-alcoholic versions can use fruit juice and still rim with Pop Rocks.
