A quick and easy festive charcuterie board arranged to resemble the American flag, featuring fresh fruits, cheeses, and optional savory additions perfect for patriotic gatherings.

Ingredients

  • Watermelon, seedless & cut into star shapes (about 300g/10.5oz)
  • Blueberries, fresh and firm (about 1 cup/150g)
  • Strawberries, hulled and sliced (optional)
  • Red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • Cucumber, sliced into 1/4-inch rounds
  • Sharp white cheddar cheese, sliced into strips about 1/4 inch thick and 3 inches long
  • Goat cheese balls or fresh mozzarella pearls
  • Thinly sliced prosciutto or pepperoni (optional)
  • Fresh mint leaves
  • Almonds or candied pecans
  • Honey or balsamic glaze (optional drizzle)

Instructions

  1. Chill the watermelon for at least an hour for crispness. Use a small star-shaped cookie cutter to punch out about 20 stars (about 300g/10.5oz).
  2. Cut the sharp cheddar into long, thin strips about 1/4 inch thick and 3 inches long. Set goat cheese balls or mozzarella pearls aside in a small bowl.
  3. Rinse blueberries (about 1 cup/150g) and strawberries. Hull and slice strawberries thinly if using. Slice cucumbers into 1/4-inch rounds and red bell pepper into thin strips.
  4. On the upper left corner of your board, place the blueberries tightly packed in a roughly square shape (about 4×5 inches). Add a few fresh mint leaves on top.
  5. Alternate rows of watermelon stars and cheddar cheese strips horizontally across the rest of the board. Use red bell pepper strips or sliced strawberries to add extra red stripes if desired. Leave some white space between rows.
  6. Scatter goat cheese balls or mozzarella pearls along the white stripes. Place small clusters of almonds or pecans in empty spaces. Drizzle honey or balsamic glaze sparingly if using.
  7. Add a few cucumber slices around the edges or in between stripes for color contrast and freshness. Place small serving forks or toothpicks nearby for easy picking.
  8. Chill the assembled board for 10 minutes before serving to let flavors meld slightly.

Notes

Keep fruits chilled until serving to prevent sogginess. Cut cheese uniformly for neat presentation. Use fresh mint sparingly to avoid overpowering flavor. Assemble within an hour of serving for best freshness. For dairy-free option, substitute cheeses with plant-based alternatives or extra nuts and veggies. Gluten-free by avoiding bread or crackers.
