  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (30 ml) – canola or sunflower oil preferred
  • Optional: pinch of salt
  • Optional: 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon chocolate chips or chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Measure 4 tablespoons (30 g) of all-purpose flour, 2 tablespoons (12 g) unsweetened cocoa powder, 3 tablespoons (38 g) sugar, 3 tablespoons (45 ml) milk, and 2 tablespoons (30 ml) vegetable oil.
  2. In a microwave-safe mug, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, and sugar to avoid lumps. If you skip sifting, stir vigorously to break up clumps.
  3. Add the milk and vegetable oil to the dry ingredients. Stir thoroughly until smooth with no dry spots. The batter will be thick but pourable.
  4. If using, stir in a pinch of salt, 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract, or 1 tablespoon chocolate chips or nuts.
  5. Microwave the mug on high power for 60-70 seconds. Start with 60 seconds and adjust based on your microwave wattage. The brownie should be set but slightly gooey in the center.
